Last weekend, we embarked on our first of what will hopefully be many road trips over the course of our year in France. Derek is super busy with work at the moment and really only had two days to spare. So, we took a quick trip over to the coast of Normandy, easily accessible and super gorgeous. We found a little place on AirBnB in the tiny town of Langrune-sur-Mer, just a few minutes’ walk to the beach.
The beach at Langrune is at the far end of the miles-long stretch that is Juno Beach – full of history from WWII and especially poignant for us Canadians. We did visit the Juno Beach Centre and museum, a short drive from our apartment. Derek will share a post on that later, but let’s just say it was awe-inspiring.
When we arrived at our apartment in the afternoon, we dropped our stuff and headed back to the beach. Danica simply couldn’t resist dipping her toes in the Atlantic. We are truly a coastal family, and having not seen the ocean for over a month we were all pretty happy to smell the salty sea air and hear the waves lap up on shore.
Later that evening, we walked along the seawall to the next town to look for a good place to have dinner. On the way, Derek and the kids braved the cool + windy evening air and went right in for a swim – they claim that the water wasn’t so cold (I’m not sure I believe them), but it was pretty chilly on shore, so I watched from the safety of the sand.
We took a day trip to Honfleur on Sunday, and again made our way back to the beach in the evening to hang out before dinner. I have a tonne of photos from our day in Honfleur, so once I narrow it down to a respectable amount I’ll be back to share. I totally fell in love!
On monday morning, we just had time for a quick visit to the beach before we headed back inland to Loches. This time I did go in, and it turns out the water wasn’t even so bad! I’d been anticipating frigid cold like the Oregon Coast, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Another great Read. Thank you.

I am going to Normandia next week and I am really looking forward to it, but weather will be bad how I saw so I will certainly not take that much beautiful photos as you did!

It’s so beautiful there, I’m sure that even on a grey and misty day it will be just fine anyhow! Have a fun trip!
